Friends of Libraries USA On February 1, 2009, Friends of Libraries U.S.A. (FOLUSA) and the Association for Library Trustees and Advocates (ALTA) joined forces to become an expanded division of ALA known as ALTAFF, the Association of Library Trustees, Advocates, Friends and Foundations. Through this partnership, ALTAFF unites libraries’ voices to speak out on behalf of library services and free public access to information. (Link)

Illinois Poet Laureate, Kevin Stein The Illinois Poet Laureate is an ambassador for poetry who is appointed by the Governor of Illinois. Dr. Stein was appointed Illinois Poet Laureate in 2003 and has made it his mission to make “poetry more available and more accessible to people in their everyday lives”. He is especially known for his Illinois Youth Poetry project, Bread & Steel audio CD, Poetry Now project and his partnership with the Illinois Center for the Book in the Illinois Emerging Writers Competition. James Jones Literary Society The James Jones Literary Society was founded in 1992. The Society is international in scope and aims to further appreciation for Jones's writings and his other accomplishments that are significant to the study and appreciation of 20th Century literature. The Society seeks to keep his works in print, to encourage Jones scholarship, and to honor him by conferring a $10,000 annual First Novel Fellowship upon an unpublished writer. The James Jones Literary Society is a partner with the Illinois Center for the Book in the Illinois Emerging Writers Competition and donates $500 to the competition each year. (Link)
